McSkillet Tip of the Day

Today and tomorrow morning, buy a medium drink at McDonalds and get a McSkillet Burrito free . It's kind of like a good coupon, except you don't need a coupon.

Organize-It Tip of the Day

I don't care how much of a neat freak you are, we all leave clutter around the house from time to time. You set your keys down on the table, the mail on the couch, the DVD you just watched on top of the TV, your jacket on the back of the chair. No big deal. Until, like me, you realize there is a trail of your personal effects in every spot you've been in the house. To declutter the little things that accumulate over time, I tried having lofty goals. "Oh, I'll just make sure I always put the mail in this nice little bin out of the way." Or, "I'll always put my shoes over there." Well, it works for a day. And before you know it, it's far too hard to organize your life. Most clutter consists of items we use and rearrange every day. Clothes, toiletries, papers, shoes. Things that aren't used daily can easily be organized into closets, pantries, etc. But your everyday items have to be easily accessible if they're going to stay organized. What

Weather Tip of the Day

Just what is the difference between Freezing Rain and sleet, and why doesn't it just snow every time it's below freezing? Weather.com has the answer . But since you don't want to read that, here's the rundown: Freezing Rain falls through the air at above or near freezing and then land on something that is belove freezing. Sleet, starts as snow, then passes through above freezing air and then back through another layer of freezing air to reform as ice. Snow, lives its whole life in freezing temperatures. Thanks Jules

Coffee Guide of the Day

Caffe Latte A Caffe Latte is a single shot of espresso with steamed milk. There is notfrothed milk in this drink. A Caffe Latte should have approximately a 3:1 ratio of milk to coffee. Note: ordering a Latte in an Italian restaurant may get you a glass of milk so be sure to order Caffe Latte. Cafe au Lait A Cafe au Lait is similar to a Caffe Latte except it is generally made withbrewed coffee instead of espresso in a ratio of 1:1 milk to coffee with sugar added to taste. Cappuccino Cappuccino is traditionally equal parts espresso, steamed milk and frothed milk. Many coffee shops will add much more milk than this in the belief that bigger is better. Americano An Americano is a single shot of espresso with 6 to 8 ounces of hot water added. This term was originally devised as a sort of insult to Americans who wanted their espresso diluted. -Renee

Word Perfect Tip of the Day

If you need to open a .wpd file, the best thing to do is to download AbiWord and it should bring it up. (Though not without the joys of cross file conversions; oddly shaped paragraphs and what-not.) Also, it won't print out properly. Or so it would appear. However, I cut and pasted everything into Word and it looked about 95%. If you need things to be 95%, you got your answer. I don't and so I am going to print out 20 pages and take it over to Kinkos and mail out the document. Fun, eh what? The problem is footnotes don't convert well. They always look odd and could be confused for actual numbers. I don't like this one bit, but there is really nothing that can be done. After working on this project for the better part of two hours I can safely say that Microsoft is evil. (The views of this poster do not necessarily reflect the views of the proprietor of this site.) Microsoft Word will not read .wpd files in Word and they bailed out Corel, who conspicuously r

Battery Tip of the Day

Car batteries can range from $50 to $200. But how much power do you really need? Consumer Reports has a handu car battery buying guide . The single best tip from the guide: "The time to think about buying a new auto battery is before the old one fails."

Traffic Tip of the Day

Sometimes traffic updates every 6 minutes just aren't fast enough. All too often I have heard a traffic update about an accident I'm already stuck in. To hedge off this problems, Google and Yahoo! both have traffic views on their maps applications. But for those of us at Tip O Da Day headquarters in Lexington, KY that feature doesn't work. But if you've listening to NPR, you are sure to have heard about the Lexington Traffic Management Center. NPR isn't getting any sort of special traffic feed from them, they are just reading off the info posted to the LFUCG Traffic Management Center website . So take a quick check before you head out the door in the morning. LFUCG also has a 24 hour traffic hotline (859-258-3611).
