Speeding Tip of the Day

A little birdie told me that from May 19 through June 1, the Kentucky State Police have received a federal grant for writing tickets for speeding. Speaking of getting speeding tickets, I have also recently been informed about a useful website (whose interface could really use some maps) that lists common speedtraps around the country, called speedtraps.org .

Network Camera Tip of the Day

This has got to be the best tip I've given out by far. A company called Axis Communications is a popular vendor of security cameras. They have a web interface to allow their owners, and if they make it available, you to view what is going on. Type this into Google to see for yourself. "inurl:/view/index.shtml" without the quotes. A lot of them are traffic cams but I found some others. When it asks you to install the Axis software say yes. It is needed to give you the live streams. Some have 4 viewports and if there's more than 1 camera on a location you can change the source camera. If its asks you for a username just click cancel. Some are slow and some are fast. The fast ones are the ones only worth viewing. Below are some of my favorites that I'm going to be keeping an eye on. I havent time to view them all because I suspect most of the activity takes place during business hours. Most of them are probably traffic or people commuting to classes. I saw 6 guys i

Sleep Tip of the Day

File this under things you already knew. Getting the right about of sleep is good for you. A new study has shown that in kids as you as 3 years old who don't get enough sleep tend to weight more . They already found that the same was true of older kid . It seems like, if you don't have enough energy from sleeping, your hormones tell you to eat more, I guess to make up for the lack of energy.

Election Tip of the Day

As Kentuckians head too the primary polls tomorrow. We found this very basic "Where they stand" guide that outlines how the 3 remaining presidential candidates stand on the 10 biggest issues. It is definitely not in depth but does show where they overlap and differ on the issues you likely care about.

Photo Tip of the Day

It's 2008, so practically everyone has a digital camera (Grandma, check) or a phone with a camera in it. So now the trick becomes showing your photos off. You can always have them printed, but that's a tip for another time. The quickest and cheapest way is to post them online for the world and your friends to see. Here are some sites that offer free photo hosting that I'd recommend looking into. They serve different needs so just find the one that you like the best. Flickr.com - owned by Yahoo!, is very popular but you can max out the free storage they offer quickly, after that, you'll have to pay for more space. Picasa Web Albums - owned by Google, so you can use your same login as your Gmail. Picasa is also a desktop program to organize the all your photos on your computer. Facebook - Has a fairly good photo album feature. Plus your "friends" on Facebook will be notified when you post new pictures of them. It is easy to limit access as to who can actually

Sonic Tip of the Day

Sonic – Americ'a Drive In, is obviously a sucker for praise. One time I noticed on my reciept, that they, like many other places these days, have a phone customer satistfaction survey that they would like you to complete. And instead of entering you in a drawing (lame), it said that I would receive a coupon code for $1 my next visit. I throughly enjoy their sausage breakfast burrito - not the SuperSONIC Breakfast Burrito mind you, just the regular one. Unfortunately, its price has risen in recent months, up from $1.29 to $1.89. So I thought, it may be worth the 5 minutes to get the price of this thing under a buck. So I called the number and pressed 1 through 5 of my touch tone phone, it was relatively quick and painless. Happily got my code and the end and used it. Much to my surprise, when I got the receipt for my 94¢ burrito (after tax), there was another invitation to fill out the same survey! As of this moment, I am on my third dollar off coupon, and plan to eat 94¢ breakfast

McChick Tip of the Day

Image
Tomorrow the 15th, McDonald's is giving away their McChick sandwiches (with the purchase of a medium or large drink, of course). In the afternoon it is a regular bun style sandwich, and in the morning it is a biscuit variant. While this these sandwiches are a rip off of Chick-Fil-A , you do have to give McDonald's some points for originality, they put the pickles on the top, instead of the bottom. Bonus: If you want your coffee cold, stop by Dunkin Donuts for free Iced Coffee Day, which is also tomorrow. With this one there is no purchase necessary.

Office Tip of the Day

While we try not to post Forwards to Tip O Da Day, this one is particularly funny. And if life around the office has been getting a little boring we sure haven't be doing our part to add excitement. So instead, spice it up a little bit with a few well placed dares. Treat the winner to Friday Bar-B-Que One-Point Dares Run one lap around the office at top speed. Ignore the first five people who say 'good morning' to you. Phone someone in the office you barely know, leave your name and say, "Just called to say I can't talk right now. Bye." To signal the end of a conversation, clamp your hands over your ears and grimace. Leave your zipper open for one hour. If anyone points it out, say, "Sorry, I really prefer it this way." Walk sideways to the photocopier. While riding in an elevator, gasp dramatically every time the doors open. Two Point Dares Say to your boss, "I like your style" and shoot him with double-barreled fingers. Babble incoherentl

Shaving Tip of the Day

Guys, do you try to shave every day, but get discouraged because the mirror is so fogged up you can see your face? Sure you do. So here is a tip for you. Try shaving the mirror first. And if you're paranoid about getting the gunk from the mirror on your face, or just ruining the blade, you can leave the little plastic guard on while you shave the mirror. The advantage of this technique over the old use-the-towel-to-wipe-off-the-mirror technique, or better yet the just-use-your-hand technique is that it doesn't leave any streaks. And that means, there is one less thing that looks like it needs cleaning!

Lemon Tip of the Day

Image
Is there anything in the world worse then sipping on your water and having a lemon seed slide right up the straw with your sip? I'm sure there is, but maybe not for everyone. That particular someone came to his/her own rescue by investing the lemon shower cap. For those times when you want to get wet, but don't want you're seeds falling out…er or something like that
