IRS Tip of the Day

Here's a tip to the IRS. Dear IRS, I will gladly pay taxes to live in the greatest country on our planet. But for the love of all things good and green, could you possibly make it any harder to pay you? As a college graduate who owns a business, a house and a dog, I don't claim to be a genius, but I should be able to easily figure out how much money I owe. Instead, I have to resort to hiring a tax professional at my own expense. I'd try it myself, but if I make a mistake, you'll find me, steal said house and dog (and college degree) and put me in jail. So I just wanted to say I think it's mean. As a business owner, I doubt I'd have any clients if I made them fill out a form to calculate how much money they owed me. When you owe someone money, you should get an invoice from them. Plain and simple. So send me a frickin' invoice, and I'll pay your frickin' taxes. Regards, Jason P.S. When I call you to ask a question about your insanely difficult process...

Travel ID Tip of the Day

My tip may seem to be rather odd, but it can be a life saver- or at least a travel saver. See, I went to Iowa for a friend's wedding, and got my hair cut short. Ten inches off and donated to Locks of Love. The problem was that I only had a driver's license as a photo ID, and was using a bank receipt and SS card as back up IDs. No problem leaving. But then in Iowa, trying to fly home, the security officer looks at my drivers license of me as a long-haired sixteen-year-old, and says, "This isn't you." I laughed, I thought she was joking...she wasn't. I stood there panicking, trying to push the bank receipt on her, but she just kept repeating, "No. This in NOT you." My friend was verifying my Id, I was pulling out my SS card and insurance card, searching for my debit- which I've hide in my purse because then when souvenir shopping I have to think about if this cheesey junk is worth the effort. But she won't have it, instead she is insisting I ...

Facebook Video Tip of the Day

Image
Wish Facebook Video had a little bit of code where you could easily embed the clip on another site? Well for some reason they don't want to be cool like YouTube. But be frustrated no longer. If you have Firefox you can install an addon that will give you the handy embed code. You can get the addon from userscripts.org . Then just scroll down to "Firefox Addon" (since only web geeks use Greasemonkey, you can skip all that stuff)

Telemarketing Tip of the Day

I got a phone call this evening asking for Mr. Morris. I immediately knew this was going to be fun. "This is CSA calling on behalf of…blah blah blah…firefighters…blah blah blah". As she was rattling off her script, that she has said one too many times to avoid blurring the words together, I remembered a tip I had heard somewhere, sometime before. When she got done explaining that they have a gold level of support front $50 and a silver level of support for $25. I asked her what cut of the money the company receives for their fund raising efforts. She instead told me how much the firefighters get: 25% ! Can you believe that? She went on to tell me there was a bronze level of support for $15. Doing some quick math, that means that the firefighters would be getting $3.75 of every $15 I were to donate. All of a sudden, I'm not the one who feels bad for turning down telefundriasers, I would feel worse if I actually donated.

Blackout Tip of the Day

If the power is out, and it is night, be extra very careful when you're brushing your teeth. Because even thought it is shaped like toothpaste, and feels like toothpaste, it may actually be Timewise face cleanser.

Peeps Tip of the Day

With Easter practically here, what are you going to do with all those marshmallow birds and bunnies. Here is an idea. Use them as a stress ball, and then when you just can't take it anymore, bite their heads off.

Leadership Tip of the Day

1,000 sheep led by a lion is more dangerous than 1,000 lions led by a sheep.

Sock Tip of the Day

I recently pinpointed the cause for my disdain toward laundry. It all stems from the socks. I don't mind putting most of my things away, in fact, it gives me pleasure to see my drawers bustling and full. ( TWSS ). But the dang socks. They just rub me the wrong way. They stick to your underwear and tees, they're balled up and still wet , and the dryer always seems to snack on a few. They're the only items in your laundry that need to be paired up, so they take a lot of time to sort, fold and put away. So, to avoid my hatred of sock-sorting, I started just doing laundry and throwing them in a bin, thinking it couldn't be that hard to find mates as I'm getting ready in the morning. But, I was very wrong. In fact, it took so long that I often found myself just wearing mismatched socks rather than hunt through. Even Cheddar was stressed: he began carrying around way more socks than ever. So I asked Fowler if he had any suggestions for my sock woes , and alas, he did. ...

American Idol Tip of the Day

For those who dont know the show is rigged. The producers only let you see what they want you to see. Auditioners have the wear the same clothes for days to make it look like they're only there for a day. There are judges who have to put you through before you even get a chance to see Randy, Paula, and Simon. They put bad people through just so Simon gets a chance to zing them and it seems like the producers only advance people with interesting backstories time and time again. But the flip side of this is its voting time and we are the producers now so to speak. Thats why I encourage you to Vote for the Worst. Making Idol a joke by having bad people make it through when they're not supposed to and watching the producers cringe makes for good TV. For more info go to http://www.votefortheworst.com We put Sanjaya through week after week and this year we're going to make sure Danny Noriega gets the special treatment.

Blu-Ray Tip of the Day

Well it's official . Now that Wal-Mart & Warner Brothers have both agreed to exclusively support Blu-Ray, there is no longer a big question mark as to what will be the disc type for watching High Definition movies at home. The other competitor was "HD DVD", not to be confused with regular "DVD" that we know and love. This whole deal was just what would be the new standard for HD movies. Regular old DVD will still be with us for many years to come for sure, but if you want to watch the latest movies on your big widescreen TV, then you might want to consider Blu-Ray as it will take advantage of every last pixel.

McSkillet Tip of the Day

Today and tomorrow morning, buy a medium drink at McDonalds and get a McSkillet Burrito free . It's kind of like a good coupon, except you don't need a coupon.

Organize-It Tip of the Day

I don't care how much of a neat freak you are, we all leave clutter around the house from time to time. You set your keys down on the table, the mail on the couch, the DVD you just watched on top of the TV, your jacket on the back of the chair. No big deal. Until, like me, you realize there is a trail of your personal effects in every spot you've been in the house. To declutter the little things that accumulate over time, I tried having lofty goals. "Oh, I'll just make sure I always put the mail in this nice little bin out of the way." Or, "I'll always put my shoes over there." Well, it works for a day. And before you know it, it's far too hard to organize your life. Most clutter consists of items we use and rearrange every day. Clothes, toiletries, papers, shoes. Things that aren't used daily can easily be organized into closets, pantries, etc. But your everyday items have to be easily accessible if they're going to stay organized. What ...

Weather Tip of the Day

Just what is the difference between Freezing Rain and sleet, and why doesn't it just snow every time it's below freezing? Weather.com has the answer . But since you don't want to read that, here's the rundown: Freezing Rain falls through the air at above or near freezing and then land on something that is belove freezing. Sleet, starts as snow, then passes through above freezing air and then back through another layer of freezing air to reform as ice. Snow, lives its whole life in freezing temperatures. Thanks Jules

Matching Tip of the Day

If you have a rust colored jacket, and a rust colored scarf, you probably don't need to dye your hair to match. H/T Renee

Day Tip of the Day

Um, guys it's Valentines Day. You're welcome

Coffee Guide of the Day

Caffe Latte A Caffe Latte is a single shot of espresso with steamed milk. There is notfrothed milk in this drink. A Caffe Latte should have approximately a 3:1 ratio of milk to coffee. Note: ordering a Latte in an Italian restaurant may get you a glass of milk so be sure to order Caffe Latte. Cafe au Lait A Cafe au Lait is similar to a Caffe Latte except it is generally made withbrewed coffee instead of espresso in a ratio of 1:1 milk to coffee with sugar added to taste. Cappuccino Cappuccino is traditionally equal parts espresso, steamed milk and frothed milk. Many coffee shops will add much more milk than this in the belief that bigger is better. Americano An Americano is a single shot of espresso with 6 to 8 ounces of hot water added. This term was originally devised as a sort of insult to Americans who wanted their espresso diluted. -Renee

Word Perfect Tip of the Day

If you need to open a .wpd file, the best thing to do is to download AbiWord and it should bring it up. (Though not without the joys of cross file conversions; oddly shaped paragraphs and what-not.) Also, it won't print out properly. Or so it would appear. However, I cut and pasted everything into Word and it looked about 95%. If you need things to be 95%, you got your answer. I don't and so I am going to print out 20 pages and take it over to Kinkos and mail out the document. Fun, eh what? The problem is footnotes don't convert well. They always look odd and could be confused for actual numbers. I don't like this one bit, but there is really nothing that can be done. After working on this project for the better part of two hours I can safely say that Microsoft is evil. (The views of this poster do not necessarily reflect the views of the proprietor of this site.) Microsoft Word will not read .wpd files in Word and they bailed out Corel, who conspicuously r...
