Say Cheese Tip of the Day

You may have to "say cheese" twice if you're ordering food at Wendy's drivethroughs. Turns out many of the dual lane Wendy's are actually taking your order remotely to be more efficient, more customer-service based, and more likely to upgrade your meal. We heard this was the case, but wanted to verify at a local Wendy's in Nicholasville. Turns out it's true! The employee informed us that our order was taken in Lexington by a call center. So then we got to wondering how the whole 2-lane thing works. How do they know which person gets what? Well, it's because the order taker actually snaps your photo as you order! So, the clerk at the store matches the order up to the photo taken of you! So, if you're adding cheese to your hamburger, you better "say cheese" twice!

That explains why they weren't at all concerned when I threatened to come in there and shoot up the place if they messed up my order.

Next thing you know, your order will be taken by some little guy from India.

I hear there are a trillion unemployed Martians just sitting around with nothing to do...

Seriously, I never ever go through a drive-through if I can help it. I think it's that sensation of sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic that bothers me.

Depending on the time of day, it's often faster to go inside anyway. And (I tell myself) it's a little bit of exercise, to offset the delicious Nuke-Your-Metabolism Thickburger. :)

Ha! Speaking of nuking your health, at Wendy's, when I ordered the bacon cheeseburger meal, the well-trained order-takers asked me if I wanted "The Baconator." I was like, "um, OK," thinking this was the new name for the sandwich. Well, turns out it's 2 artery-clogging 1/2 lb. beef patties, a block of cheese and SIX strips of bacon! If that won't kill you, nothing will!

Were you able to finish the beast of a baconator?

ha, I've been wanting to try the Baconator, but it's kinda pricey. don't forget that it's topped with mayonaise!

Hardees has a similar sandwich, the Monster Thickburger. Basically the same, except 2/3 lbs of meat to Wendy's 1/2 lb and Hardee's butters and toasts the bun for good measure.

Somehow, Wendys claims their Baconator is only 830 calories, though, which seems low. (Their 3/4-Pounder is 980, which I'm also suspicious of.)

Hardees' Monster T-burger clocks in at a staggering 1410 calories. If you get the small fries (340 cals) and a small soda (approx 250 cals), you really don't need to eat anything for the rest of the weekend.

I absolutely was NOT able to eat the whole thing (TWSS). In fact, I threw out an entire patty prior to even thinking about eating it.

You're not kidding about the little guy from India thing. Has anyone read "The World Is Flat?" Good book, at least what I'm through so far. Oh, and hi to everyone back in ol' Kentuck'! Colorado's good. It's supposed to snow this weekend, and tomorrow's ski day #1 of the season!!!
