Parallel Parking Tip of the Day

Hate parallel parking? Don't we all. There are now cars in production that will parallel park themselves. Getting your drivers license just became so much easier.

Or, if you were like me and got your license in an easy state like florida, you didn't have to worry about silly things like advanced driving skills to get your license. I guess they just figured the best way to learn is to scratch a bumper.

Something that also helps pass the parallel test? Be extremely friendly and talk your instructor's EAR off. And use your turn signals incessantly. They love that crap. I've also heard that taking your test in a manual-transmission car can help. Can anyone verify that?

…if you don't stall 3 times

Or, you can get an instructor who is from out of the area so she doesn't know where to go. I parallel parked in front of a driveway. I would have hit the curb had it been on a real street. But since I didn't actually hit a curb, I passed with an 81 (you had to have at least 80 to pass).

In my defense, I was either driving an SUV or a very large car(mob-like even), not like my little Chulita.

Another nice thing of Florida, you don't actually have to go on any real roads.

My parallel park job was heinous. I was about 4 feet from the curb. But I think I passed because of the cul de sac incident. Turns out it's recommended to signal when going around a "sac." So when I signaled, I think he was really impressed.

Is it a beautiful paradise because of the lack of parallel parking, or because of the palm trees and beaches?

or because of the killer bees and alligators?

and here's a factoid - did anyone know that "cul-de-sac" is a Anglo-French phrase meaning "ass of a bag"

Andy: LOL. Wow.

Blair: Yes, you're probably allergic to swamps. And alligators. And bees.

On the downside, Florida is really humid (not that KY isn't) and the bugs are gigantuan...

Blair, they also have a lot of citrus fruit down there that you may not like :).

And it warms my heart to see so many comments. Good show guys!

Someone was wondering what the source was on this. While I didn't write the tip, I did hear it mentioned on this podcast:
