Emergency Tip of the Day

If you ever need to book a plane flight for an emergency, such as a funeral, don't book a flight on-line. Call the airline direct and ask for an emergency rate. Yes, they'll have to verify the information, but it's worth the hassle for a ticket that's less than half the best price you could find on-line.

Check with both the airline and the online discount sites. I tried to get a bereavement fare directly from the airline last year and it was $300 more than what I found online. But an emergency fare might be treated differently than a bereavement one.

I was told by the airlines I called that no bereavement discounts were offered as well. Never thought to try the emergency rate.

Perhaps it depends on the airline, but I got a $1000 ticket for $298. So, it's definately worth a try. It was NW airlines.
